HAWAII DAY ONE

5.28.2018

ALOOOOOOHA! So sorry to have not posted in so long--I needed a mental check. I've been going through a bunch of things lately and after releasing my FREE eBook (which you can get here), I decided not to post on my blog for a while to sort of recharge. Well, that little break did me wonders, because not only do I feel so much better, happier, and just content with my life right now, but I also WENT TO HAWAII FOR THE FIRST TIME over the weeks I was away from the blog.

Hawaii has always been a dream of mine and Kurtis's to go to. Back in March, I received an email from Pomelo Travel--which if you're not aware of it, you NEED to be! Pomelo gives you email alerts on CRAZY GOOD flight deals all over the world! The email alerted the most insane deal I've ever seen--$197 ROUNDTRIP to Hawaii from Los Angeles (I live in Southern California), but also crazy good deals from other cities in the U.S. to Hawaii, as well. Kurtis was at work at the time and I couldn't really get ahold of him, so I took a chance and bought two tickets for us to Oahu for early May. Basically, it was his early birthday gift since his birthday is late May.

I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU! Honestly, this trip would not have happened and had been so amazing if it wasn't for the blessings and opportunities I get through my blog and Instagram. I was able to partner with so many AMAZING companies for this trip in order to get it to happen--cause y'all know your girl is broke most of the time.

I've decided to split our trip into separate blogs for each day to keep it easier just because there's so much I want to share with you! Hopefully you enjoy it all!

Here's day one:

Our flight was around 8am on May 2. We woke up early in the morning, and my gem of a mother drove us to LAX--which is always CRAZY busy. We flew with United Airlines and both took a personal and carry on bag. I'll be making a post about packing light and how to travel using only carry-ons soon! I seriously HATE flying with checked bags not only because it can cost so much, but because I"m paranoid of my bags being lost!

Our flight was pretty nice, Kurtis and I had a row to ourselves and he was able to nap almost the whole 5 hour flight. I on the other hand really struggled to sleep, so I just watched some in-flight movies. We flew into Honolulu Airport and our flight arrived around 11am Hawaii time. After we got on the plane, we headed to Hertz to pick up our rental car. HEADS UP! If you are under 25, there is a young driver fee that can be hundreds of dollars, BUT! If you have AAA, the young driver fee is waived! Luckily, I have AAA and booked my rental in advance. ALSO, AAA members get 20% on their rentals! Such a good deal! We got to the counter and I totally forgot my credit card and second form of picture ID to rent the car. The man at the counter who helped us, Guy, was the sweetest man and told me that my COSTCO CARD was good enough as a second form of ID and that I could pay with my debit card, but a $200 security deposit is needed when you use a debit card. SO, if you don't want to have to deal with a security deposit and have a credit card, make sure you have it as well as another form of ID for renting a car!

We had originally rented a Jeep Compass, which is a small SUV, but Kurtis made a comment to Guy about Jeep Wranglers and if they had any, to which Guy responded they did, but for more money. So he goes on to fill out my information for the rental agreement, and after he's done he informs us that he gave us A FREE UPGRADE TO A JEEP WRANGLER! Seriously, the most amazing customer service I think I've ever received and considering it was my first time renting a car, I was very happy and pleased with my experience with Hertz. We loved our Jeep Wrangler and had so much fun driving it around the island!

After getting our rental, we drove to Waikiki Beach to see it and then to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu. The Royal Hawaiian is the prettiest pink hotel and we used it as one of our locations for a photoshoot. After that, we drove to the North Shore to Waialua to our Airbnb. Our Airbnb was so great and SO CHEAP and in such a convenient location and we LOVED it! We had dinner at some food trucks in Haleiwa and just chilled for the rest of the night.

That's about all we did our first day there! We were very tired and just traveling a lot, but loved it anyway!

Some things to know:

THE PEOPLE IN HAWAII ARE THE NICEST AND MOST GENEROUS PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET. Everyone was so welcoming and kind and I was offered so many great things for either cheap or free! They all really wanted us to enjoy our time and we definitely did!

Kurtis and I prefer to just explore and kind of do more "local" things than tourist-y things. Of course, we do tend to mix a few tourist-y things and will definitely have trips where we do go all out and are complete tourists, but we LOVE getting more of a "real" experience, so we try to live like locals as much as possible when we travel.

AND NOWWWWWWWWWW!!!! Here are the photos from the first day! I will be sure to add any tags and outfit info for you all!
