HELLO FRIENDS! Today is Kurtis's 22nd birthday (ooooo, golden year), and I'm excited because I love him and he's the best and I like celebrating him.
I wanted to share with you all my favorite skincare products for clearing my face. In the future I plan on doing a whole skin story post (trust me, it'll be a long one) and HOW I cleared it and the long struggle I had with it, but for now I just wanted to share with you all the products I use to clean my face and keep it clear.
A (little) Background:
Back in September, after being furious with my skin and the struggles I've had with it since I was 17, I finally went to a dermatologist. My skin NEVER (thankfully) had cystic acne, but I did have some ugly pimples that were huge, itchy, or just numerous. I also had some hyperpigmentation (I bruise easily, thanks anemia) and minimal scarring. On the first visit, basically he told me that all my acne was due to weird hormones brought on by stress and my severe deficiency in iron. My skin is pretty much clear now, with VERY minimal scarring, no hyperpigmentation (except when there's the occasional stress zit, but the hyperpigmentation from those goes away very quickly), and I'm super confident and happy.
Some of these products are prescribed by my dermatologist, but seriously they're the best. Others are products you can find at any story like Target or ULTA. I'll start off with the products prescribed to use by my dermatologist and then move onto the other products I use.
Cetaphil Oil Control Face Wash for Acne Prone Skin. This stuff can be found at pretty much any drug store. This is the facial cleanser I use everyday and I love it. I was using this product alone for about a week before my prescription products came in and this alone in just that one week did wonders for my skin. I use it twice a day along with my two prescribed products as recommended by my dermatologist. Also, in the 8 months I've been using these products, I've only used on full bottle and still have a ton left in the 2nd bottle. Lasts FOREVER.
Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. This is the moisturizer I use everyday after washing my face. I love this because it's nice for my sensitive skin and doesn't irritate it at all. I'm still on the same bottle I was when I bought this 8 months ago! I also like using the Cetaphil moisturizer with SPF for when I'm out in the sun. It doesn't clog my pores and keeps my skin hydrated.
SulfaCleanse: This is prescribed by my dermatologist. Basically, I use this once a day when I wash my face in the shower. I typically shower in evenings, so I use this at night and the other prescribed product in the morning. If I shower in the morning one day, I'll just switch the routine around. This dries out your skin (it's supposed to), but that's how it gets rid of any acne. I LOVE THIS. Seriously, the two products I was prescribed save my skin. If I'm breaking out for whatever reason, I just go back to using them (sometimes I'll take a break from using them when my skin is clear just to give it a break from drying it out so much). Lately, I've been back to using this everyday because I don't just want my skin to clear up, I want to prevent more from coming. It not only cleared up my acne, but it also helped clear up my hyperpigmentation and even my scarring! Seriously, if you're tired of struggling with your skin just go see a dermatologist. I also am only on my second bottle and it's STILL FULL. Seriously, this also lasts forever.
This is the other product I was prescribed and is a topical gel that I use every morning after washing my face and before moisturizing. Basically, I just squeeze a little out of the tube and apply it in dots on the certain areas of my face (forehead, left cheek, right cheek, chin). I do each part of my face one at a time, dotting the product and then rubbing it in. SO SIMPLE! This also helps combat scarring and hyperpigmentation. And guess what, IT LASTS FOREVER!! I'm still on my first tube, although I have a second for backup. I'll also be calling the pharmaceutical company to have them refill and send the prescribed products again soon just so I have more for when I do run out.
I use this also when a random pimple pops up--more specifically a stubborn one and ESPECIALLY cluster zits. Those are my enemy when I stress out. Its description also says that it's specifically meant to combat cystic acne. I've never had cystic acne, so I couldn't really tell you if that's true or not, but it does help clear up my most stubborn pimples.
THERE YOU HAVE IT! These products are the skincare products I SPECIFICALLY use to clear my skin and keep it clear! I have other products I like to use just to treat my skin like masks, facial sprays, etc., but these are my faves for specifically combatting difficult, acne prone skin and clearing it up. ALSO, I NEVER use an exfoliating wash on my face. Dermatologists actually say they do more harm than good and to just let your face naturally exfoliate itself. On the occasion, there are some needs for exfoliators (like if you need it because you have SUPER peely, dry skin), but my dermatologist told me that it can actually make acne worse and damage your skin and scar it. So, just be educated on the products you're using and what exfoliators you're putting on your skin.
Another thing, I specifically didn't include photos of my skin in this post because I wanted to focus more on the products and I'll also be including them in my future skin story post.
Hope you all have a great week! If you use any of these products or have other products you can't live without let me know in the comments! I'm always on the hunt for good skincare products. Thanks for reading!
